The incumbent performs complex legal work, supervises attorneys and support staff, and oversees legal work related to the registration of deeds, real property, births, deaths, and marriages, ensuring compliance with laws.

The incumbent assists the Chief Magistrate in planning, directing, and coordinating the work of the Magistracy, presides over Magistrates’ Courts, and adjudicates on cases of summary jurisdiction.

The incumbent investigates unnatural or unexplained deaths, holds inquests, and determines if an indictable offense has been committed. Reviews and approves applications for exhumation and tissue removal for transplantation.

The incumbent functions as the principal provider of responsible professional legal services in the area of Civil Law to all Government Departments and Ministries, ensuring compliance with the law in their functions and representing the State in civil matters before the Court. Also responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of the Chief State Solicitor’s Department.

Manages the Legislative Drafting Department under the Attorney General. Responsible for overseeing the preparation of draft legislation, subsidiary legislation, and legal documents for Parliament, Ministries, Cabinet, and the Presidency.

Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the Magistracy Division and presides over Magistrates' Courts on important and high-profile cases in Trinidad and Tobago. Functions also include chairing licensing committees and acting as Coroner.

The incumbent ensures that appeals and other matters are scheduled and heard by the Tax Appeal Board. The role also involves custody of court records, issuing court documents, and overseeing the administrative functions of the Board.

The incumbent is responsible for the administrative, financial, legal, and judicial functions of the Industrial Court, subject to the President's direction. Duties include managing court records, supervising staff, and facilitating the court's proper functioning.

The incumbent manages the Registrar General’s Department, ensuring compliance with laws related to the registration of births, deaths, marriages, deeds, court orders, and other documents. They supervise legal and non-legal staff, and ensure the efficient operation of the department.

Under the general direction of the Minister of Finance, the incumbent is required to advise and guide the Minister of Finance and all Ministries/Departments of Government on the proper financial management standards to be used in the receipt, custody, payment, or issue of public monies. Work includes advising the Minister on financial transactions entered into by the Government/Minister of Finance.
