The incumbent stimulates research and creativity within the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago by providing intellectual property rights and ensuring their legal protection.

The incumbent assists the Law Reform Commission in achieving its mandate and manages the staff and resources of the organization.

The incumbent functions as the principal provider of responsible professional legal services in the area of Civil Law to all Government Departments and Ministries, ensuring compliance with the law in their functions and representing the State in civil matters before the Court. Also responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of the Chief State Solicitor’s Department.

This job requires the incumbent to plan and coordinate the activities of the Welfare Section responsible for the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates. Duties include developing programs, supervising staff, reviewing case histories, and providing counseling services.

Manages the Legislative Drafting Department under the Attorney General. Responsible for overseeing the preparation of draft legislation, subsidiary legislation, and legal documents for Parliament, Ministries, Cabinet, and the Presidency.

Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the Magistracy Division and presides over Magistrates' Courts on important and high-profile cases in Trinidad and Tobago. Functions also include chairing licensing committees and acting as Coroner.
