Cardio-Pulmonary Technician

Specialised technical work in the operation of Cardio/Pulmonary machines. An employee in this class is responsible for the operation of Cardio/Pulmonary machines during Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery and the operation of the Pulmonary Function machines. Work involves maintaining cardiac pumps and related equipment, checking parameters through monitors and blood tests, maintaining physiological equilibrium of patients and sterile conditions during surgery. Work also involves the preparation and submission of reports on tests carried out on patients. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Cardio-Thoracic surgeon in surgery related duties, but some independence is exercised in the preparation of reports, tests etc. Work is reviewed through reports, discussions and observation for effectiveness and for adherence to guidelines.
